The teen was arrested after police responded around 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, to the Stamford Town Center parking garage on a report of a carjacking, said Stamford Police Lt. Michael Noto.
The female victim told officers that a black male approached her as she was seated in her car, which was parked on the ninth level of the parking garage, Noto said.
He displayed a handgun and asked for money and told her to turn off her cell phone and to get int he backseat of the vehicle. The woman refused and ran from the scene, he added.
The teen then entered the vehicle and drove off.
Stamford officers found the vehicle a short time later parked and unoccupied on Vista Street, Noto said.
The Stamford Police Department Bureau of Criminal Investigations was conducting proactive patrols in the downtown area where they identified a person of interest in several other criminal incidents that had been occurring over the past month.
That person of interest was eventually identified as the suspect for the carjacking, he said.
The teen was taken into custody early Monday, Oct. 7, and during an interview, he confessed to the carjacking and other unrelated incidents in the downtown area, Noto said.
The juvenile was charged with robbery, larceny, criminal attempt at kidnapping with a firearm, and carrying a dangerous weapon.
He is being held at the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigations is continuing the criminal investigation into other crimes, Noto said.
"The Stamford Police Department is extremely proud of the hard work of Sgt. Sean Boeger, Officer Damien Rosa and Louis Burdi in this case," said Capt. Richard Conklin. "They were able to develop a suspect in a short amount of time and take a dangerous predator off the streets."
